
The 10th Corporate Advisory Committee/Industrial Advisory Board (CAC/IAB) Meeting of the Electrical Engineering Department was held on December 2, 2023, on the Rose Training Hall, 2nd Floor, SSK Building, IoBM. The meeting commenced with a recitation, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Muhammad Imran Majid, Associate Professor and Head of Department for Electrical Engineering.
Distinguished guests from various industrial sectors were present, including Mr. Hira Lal, President, Rotary Club Karachi; Mr. Asif Siddiqui, CEO, Sigma Ventures (Pvt) Ltd; Mr. Irfan Ahmad, Consultant, Energy Sector; Mr. Mashood Khan, Managing Director, Mehran Commercial Enterprises; Mr. Syed Adeel ur Rehman, Chief Operating Officer & Principal Consultant, PRIME Business & Engineering and Mr. Riaz Chaudhry.
Dr. Majid introduced the BS Technology Management (BS TM) program, emphasizing its focus on a sustainable digital future. He mentioned the positive response received from industries regarding the program and proposed curriculum updates as part of the continuous quality improvement (CQI) process. Guest feedback was encouraged to further enhance the program and secure industry support. Renewable Energy was highlighted as an area of focus, with an emphasis on moving beyond theoretical knowledge and addressing practical challenges.
Dr. Majid requested the guests to consider conducting guest speaker sessions for the Spring semester. Mr. Irfan, Mr. Syed Adeel Ur Rehman, and Mr. Noorali Amarsi graciously volunteered to participate. The meeting concluded with presentations by two final-year student groups from the Electrical Engineering program. The students showcased their work on the Internet of Things (IoT) and garbage segregation and removal, receiving valuable feedback from the esteemed guests.
The activities discussed during the 10th EE Industry Advisory Board Meeting align with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The introduction of the BS Technology Management (BS TM) program with a focus on renewable energy directly relates to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), as it promotes innovative solutions and practical applications in the energy sector. The collaboration between academia and industry also strengthens SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by encouraging partnerships to achieve sustainable development goals through knowledge-sharing and capacity-building efforts.
